I have a CRT Philips monitor that I"ve used for over four years. Just a
few days ago the entire left side of the screen starting shifting small
distances back and forth (horizontally). Is there a general rule of thumb
with repairs on monitors?

In other words, is it worth it to have it repaired or is the probably a
fault in the tube itself and not the associated electronics? Thanks, Dave

At 4 years old it's not worth the cost of the simplest/cheapest repair
possible, no matter what is wrong with it, unless it's a very large
(>19") pro series monitor. Sounds more like circuit board
component(s) though, not the tube.

No doubt - trash it! CRT monitors are cheap to replace now days. I saw a 19
incher at Staples last week for $199 then you get a fifty buck rebate.
Thought I'd wait a while longer for the LCD's to drop in price so I picked
one up.

See other posts but don't forget it can also be the Display Adaptor.

BTW, do you have any flourecent lights or other monitors or magnetic devices
nearby?

Nope. I've degaussed it a few times. I've changed the monitor settings
and the problem as yet to reappear. I have done some googling about this
and have learned (I believe) that the problem is probably in the power
supply and will return eventually.

If I can get my hands on a 2nd hand 17 inch monitor for a good price, I'll
probably that instead of having this repaired. This monitor is about four
years old. Thanks, DH
