Monitor Power-off doesn't work after Hibernate

Hi, I'm using Windows XP Media Center Edition and have noticed that although
I have my Power Options setup to Turn Off Monitor after 15 minutes, this
only happens on a clean boot and before hibernation occurs.

After hibernation, the monitor stays on permanantly, even though no software
tasks are running and nothing is happening on the screen or input devices.

If I don't reboot, but do go back into Power Options and change the 15
minutes to 10, then 15, then Apply, it again works normally.

Why is it 'forgetting' to turn off my monitor after a hibernation wake-up?
Rather annoying when I come home after a day out, to find the monitor has
been on the whole time.

Maybe it's trying to turn off your monitor, but the monitor is not accepting
the signal. I had one of those. A new monitor solved the condition.

Mine did to. A reboot also resets things in the monitor - resolutions etc.
If you have a CRT monitor, you can usually hear the small relays click as
resolution goes through different steppings.

How hard is it for you to try a different monitor? Or thy that monitor on a
different computer.

Also, look to see that your bios power options are set to none. Allow the
operating system to control the system, not the bios.

Thanks but none of those things work, and this has been an intermittent
problem ever since I got XP. I'm 100% sure it's not the monitor, and I all
APM settings point to OS.

Clearly if rebooting XP solves it, it is an XP issue. The monitor can't be
rebooted to fix bugs, but the OS can - and does.

Any other ideas anyone?
 
OK. Lets get a misconception out of the way. A monitor/printer etc uses
micro processors, just as the computer does. I can't begin to tell you how
many times I have told a client to turn off the computer, "unplug" the
printer or monitor, scanner etc. and then have the client tell me that
everything is fine now!

Granted, it may not work in your case, but it only takes a moment to try!

And, until you have tried, I am out of this thread!

Okay Richard, have done as you suggested and still no different. I maintain
it's an XP issue but thanks anyway.
