My neighbour has a new laptop, and I helped him out with the password to
my Sweex wlan router.

Question is: what tool should I use to make sure his usage of my
broadband connection stays within reason. He's going to pay me, he said,
15.00 euro a month. I'm used to paying over 70.00 euro a month.

So he's going to help me out by handing me 21% of the total bill cost. I
made this table to show you how much I consume myself:
aug/sep 37,285 MB
sep/oct 16,615 MB
oct/nov 8,435 MB (this period is not finished yet, so I won't include
it)

I spent on average for 3 months (aug/sep/oct): 26,950 MB. That is 100%
of 70.00 euro. The 21% my neighbour is buying with his 15.00 euro adds
up to 5,659 MB.

So basically I need to limit his broadband usage to 5,659 MB. That's
where I need a tool. If he exceeds that limit, he should pay extra. Or I
change my WEP password.

I'm sure someone here on this group knows the answer - has already done
some research in that area. That is the knowledge I hope to access
writing this.

In case I miss your reply, my email address is (e-mail address removed). Please
forward a copy of your post to that email address. Just to be on the
safe side. I'm using Xnews 5.04.25, and I'm setting "FollowUp-To" =
"poster", though I'm not sure what this will do. I don't use usenet
groups as a habit.

Hi
When using regular consumer devices each computer goes directly to the
Router and the Internet.
End-Users Router usually do not provide bandwidth usage information. The
only way to measure it is to install software that can log the usage on each
computer.
