How long is this monitor going to last? Have been using
this monitor since win3.1 days....used with win98 and now
with winXP. Do not want new monitor until this one fails.

Like most appliances, TV, refrigerator, etc, around 12 years is the normal
life expectancy. Of course anything is subject to fail 2 days after the
warranty runs out.

The long life expectancy is why a person should put the monitor at the top
of the list in choosing hardware when buying a new PC. The other things are
outdated by the time you get them home but, with few exceptions, CRT
monitors haven't really changed in years.

Just my 2¢ worth,

how long is your washing machine going to last. It all
depends on if you keep the gridleak bios full.

Some last a long time (the monitor on my server is just passing 9 years old)
some go after say a year or so. Just like a tv, they can go suddenly, or
last for what seems forever.

You'll find monitors are now much bigger - 17"= is now the 'norm' and are
better resolution. Since yours is so old, you might want to start
considering what you will get when it does go.

If they're going to 'die' a natural death, they become darker and darker...
however sometimes it's quick and sudden. You can just never tell!

How old was the oldest T.V. you ever had? How old was the youngest before it
died. Monitors are exactly the same.

The only 17" monitor in our household is the 10 year old one on the Server,
the others are 19" and 21".....

I popped into Frys tonight to get my husband's CPU (which somehow he managed
to kill) replaced as it was only 5 months old. No sign of anything less
than 17"! Other than their own store system monitors... and did they look
tiny or what!

Cari,

I try to stay away from Fry's, CompUSA, Best Buy, etc. because, every time I
go into one of them, when I leave, I come home to this pitiful "little" 17
inch, antiquated, piece of junk that looked so big when I bought it,
compared to the 13 inch I was used to.

Cheers, JAX

Tell the spouse that it could die any day, and visis a compuer flea market
or dealer show when it comes to youir area to look for a replacement,
or look for advert's for local used computer dealers

The used market is floded with decent large class monitors becuase
of the popularity of LCD screens. You can get a great deal.

A "15 inch" LCD is really the same as a glass 16 inch monitor and they
can be had for about $175, YOu'll love it, if you can convince the
spouse. Hint that you want it for Valintine's day. :-)

How long does a light bulb last? You never know. A great many last past the
"rated" hours, sometimes by tenfold of years.

A CRT uses a filament also. They wear. How long do they last? Until they
die!
