My 19 inch Mitsubishi CRT Diamond scan 930sb monitor may not be dead
but it's clearly sick, probably requiring an expensive repair

But just thought I would get some opinions

Never had any problems with this monitor over the past few years unti
I tried to change my display properties in windows xp today. All I di
was hit the advanced button and the monitor looked like it went t
change resolutions but instead a strange Japanese body of tex
appeared on the screen. I turned it off, and when it turned on agai
the image was severely distorted. The screen was severely curved a
the edges with a lot of black space at the top and bottom. I'm fairl
certain its a monitor issue since the screen has the same distortio
upon booting up and when using my xbox 360 with a vga cable adapter

Now the geometry controls have allowed me to make the picture loo
somewhat more normal, but the coloring is also not right. Washed ou
would be the way to describe no matter how I adjust the monito
settings. The monitor image is even more distorted and curved a
lower resolutions and refresh rates but it's not right at an
settings, with the default windows vga driver or nvidia drivers.

Should I even bother contacting NEC/Mitsuibishi tech support tomorro
and sending it in for repairs? I know it will be expensive and woul
rather just get a decent widescreen lcd. Too bad though, this was
great crt monitor

I use the same monitor at work. Have you tried resetting to factory
defaults?

Yah, tried that, no luck.

Did you go back to widdoze safe mode & check it? you may have changed
to a pixel format or refresh it can't handle.

Well, I tried hooking up a laptop to it and an xbox 360 with the sam
results so I don't think it has anything to do with my video card o
windows. Could be the vga cable I suppose but its the kind that i
soldered into the back of the monitor so it doesn't help me

Anyway, I talked with tech support today and the guy seemed to thin
the monitor probably needed repair. It's still under warranty fo
another 7 months, but now I have to decide whether its worth it t
pay 70 bucks to ship it for repair when you get a comparable use
model on ebay for near that price. Or if I should just get a new lc
monitor, I don't really want to get a cheaper one and take a ste
down from this quality CRT, which means Ill have to spend quite a bi
for a 19 or 20 inch that can exceed 1280 x 1024 resolutions
