I recently (July 10) upgraded to Win2K from Win98. I also
did other upgrades to the machine at that time. I had no
problem with the computer until August 15. I was running
several programs that I have run at the same time before.
The monitor went black, no video at all. I rebooted the
machine and it was ok.

This has happened several times since then also.
I want to find the problem but am not sure how. Can
someone please help me?

Thanks

Hi Aron I read your question. I first want to ask if you
just upgrade from win 98 to win 2k or did you install a
fresh version of win 2k as this is a more suggested way
to go because you can have driver conflicts when just
upgrading to either version of windows.
Anyway I would first start looking at the monitor, you said
that after your initial upgrade it worked fine untill
a few days later. Are you able to dx it and recx it to
another pc to see it is working? it could be you just need
a new monitor. Then I would try either updating the BIOS
of the pc or if you have a seperate video card the drivers
for that card. You should be able to obtain these from
the manufactures wed site of the pc & video card.

Thank you so much for answering.
I had to have a new hard drive so I did an install of
Win2K clean.
I have updated drivers and it seems to me that at that
time I did some driver updates and I installed a copy of
MSConFig (unneeded in win2k)
Will check again on the updates on drivers. The monitor
seems to work fine and this "dead screen" only occurs
occasionally... maybe every 3 to 5 days. Of course it is
when I have lots I am working on. LOL
