my monitors is flickering and changing colors. I have alreadyy gone
into control panel, settings, advanced and refreshed and checked for
compatability. My monitor is compatiable with windowsxp home. I need
to know how to check to see if my bios needs to be updated but this
computer was purchased with this monitor and windowsxphome. I wouldn't
think i would need to upgrade bios. Or do you think my monitor is
going out???
A good way to troubleshoot this is to:
1. Attach the computer to a different monitor. If everything is fine,
then you know the original monitor needs to be replaced (and I suspect
that is the case here).
2. If the problems occur while the machine is attached to a different
monitor, first:
a. Upgrade your video card drivers. Never get drivers from Windows
Update. Get them from:
1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).
Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.
To find out what hardware is in your computer:
1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

b. If upgrading the drivers doesn't work, uninstall the video card and
put in a known-working one. If that solves the issue, discard the old
card.
