monitor display problems

My Inspiron 700m ran out of battery and afterwards the display desktop got
all enlarged and stretched out. I went to the contro panel to fix the large
fonts but the image still looks stretched to the sides and sort of out of
focus. Can somebody please help me fix this. I looked all over the control
panel but cannot adjust anything. I also already rebooted it. The battery
is now fully charged.

Right click on your desktop and click Properties then Settings. Reduce your
screen resolution.
 
Have you tried right clicking on the desktop, properties, (should see Display
Properties window) settings tab, to adjust the screen resolution, moving the
slider to more, applying the changes..?
