Monitor display problem

A few days ago I ran a long command (from another newsgroup) on my XP Home
system in an attempt to disable NetMeeting. When I restarted, the desktop
display was garbled, so I restarted again, in VGA mode, and tried to find
the problem. According to Device Manager, my Nvidia display adaptor was
working OK, but I updated the driver anyhow. Then I tried booting at
different display settings, but got the same garbled screen every time. I
also tried decreasing hardware acceleration, but that was no help. I then
tried the same adjustments in Safe Mode, to no avail. The only way I can get
a normal desktop (outside Safe Mode) is to enable VGA before Windows loads.

I considered a system restore, but unfortunately don't have a recent restore
point before the problem began. (And the ironic part is that the original
command to disable NetMeeting didn't work.) What now?

Check the screen refresh rate and see if the monitor refresh rate reset to
60 (default) . This low setting could cause the problem that you are
experiencing. Normal setting should be 75-85 . Jym
