Monitor display problem.How to repair?

I have a BenQ monitor which take a long time to warm up before i can have
display on it. When i power it up i can see the power led blinking and i
have to reset my pc for about 30mins before i'm able to get a display. Is
there something wrong with the vga connect pin or it's the monitor internal
problem. It looks like an engine using a wear off spark plug to me lol. This
may be abit technical , hope that someone is able assit me to repair it
myself.

Sadly, the quickest way to check a monitor, is on
another machine.
That way, you find out whether it`s the monitor, or
the video card.

Very true! very true! we just have to start everything from very basic
then go from there.

This has nothing to do with computer, but it's video related that I have
never seen before in my life (lot of years too <g>), and someone may be
interest to know too (?).

I have a 32" TV which is about 3 years old, this is the one my wife usesa
lot so I hardly touch it. And about a year ago a weird thing happened to
the screen

- Once awhile (could be more often but since I rarely pay attention to it) a
BLACK spot about a size of a sheet of paper appear right at the middle of
the bottom part of the screen.

- If switch to different channel then return then it may be fine for few
minutes then the black spot re-appears again. I don't know if it
happens to all channels or a specific channal's (??? never care to
check)

- Sometime it's ok for days or at least hours without any problem, and I
don't think it ever happens when playing DVD.

- And once awhile (not very often) insize the large BLACK area there are
some characters looks kinda like programming code. The below is not the
exact characters display on TV but something like

">CHA MN %$MLAN &N0012HN KI(65) M@HN $#
......... "

I switiched to Digital Cable, because of a special that had.

And the BBoD [Black Box of Death :)] disappeared!

during this 30 minutes how does the monitor behave besides a black
screen? power led? noises?
when display finally shows up, does up creep up in brightneess slowly
or just come on normally?

I may mess around with the cable see if it's the one causing the whole
mystery. And if the new cable solve the "BBoD" then I may use the old cable
to hang myself for good <bg>

BTW, it's a long Cable I run from downstairs (climbing up the wall to
ceiling, through the stairs to behind the couch then to the TV <g>), and
it's long enough to hang the whole family <bg>

The passing of time should not normally fix a connector pin
problem, unless it's possible the cable had been flexed
until it put stress on the connector and broke a solder
joint or cracked the board - in which case gently
manipulating the cable might connect the signal
(temporarily).

It is more likely a monitor problem, but you didn't mention
the details of the hardware such as what video card, cabling
type, monitor model and type. If it's under warranty still
you might seek to RMA it, or if not (isn't BenQ's warranty 3
years?) it might be time to replace it. As another poster
mentioned the easiest way to check is moving the monitor to
another system, or another monitor to that one.
 
Besides black screen the power led blinks on and off in green with and tick
sound when it lights up. normally what i did is i wait for abt 30mins then i
try to reset my pc when i leds light up with many attempts until the led
stop blinking and it will act normally.There is nothing wrong with my
graphics card or pc as i have try it on another monitor.I was asking if
anyone who is technically wise who can teach me repair it.
