Monitor contrast

My monitor has suddenly gone very dark. I have brightness and contrast set to
max but still it is so dark it is hard to see somethings. Nothing has been
changed on the computer and nothing added, anyone any suggestions?

Three suggestions:

1. Power down, unplug and replug the VGA-monitor cable(s), and make sure they
are tight. Unlikely to fix the problem, but at least this potential fix
is free.

2. Replace the VGA card. If you have a spare VGA laying about, even if it is
old, try it as a free experiment.

3. Replace the monitor. Again, since I like free experiments, "borrow" one from
another PC.

All in all, it sounds most likely that your monitor has croaked -- just in time
give hints to Santa.

I've tried your first two suggestions and no joy. Looks like the monitor,
just my luck, hope Santas feeling generous this year. Have a good Christmas

If this is LCD or "flatpanel" your "backlight" may have died. Ask a
shop, how much to fix it.
