monitor cable question

Got a good question.

A friend is fixing to get rid of a big, nice, modern monitor because the
data cable (as opposed to the power cord) plug has been cut off. And, he'll
give the monitor to me

I've never encountered this problem, but looks to me like there might be two
possibilities of fixing it up.

One is to have a local shop put another plug on the cable.

The other is to find a new cab;e with plug, open the monitor, and install
the new cable/plug assy.

Anyone know if either of these are doable?

One is to have a local shop put another plug on the cable.

The local shop has to know the pinout of the cable. The d-sub connector is
easy but how do you know what color is used for v-synch or h-synch? Trust me
on this one, I have did this a few times, and it sxxks if you dont know the
pinout. But overall it is doable
The other is to find a new cab;e with plug, open the monitor, and install
the new cable/plug assy.

This might be the best solution, but keep in mind that most monitorbrands,
in Europe, dont deliver cables so buying them could be a problem.

Alway try to get the original, if that fails try to connect a new plug. He,
it's defective afterall and didn't cost a thing

Succes
Chris
