After I plugged my hp pavilion dv9000 into the base, it decided that
the external monitor was 1, and the laptop monitor was 2. I've
restarted and the problem persists. Anyone seen this before? What can
I do?

Yeah, I have had that happen when I reinstalled Vista. Either reconnect the
monitors the right way around, or swap them over using UltraMon.

Oh, I misread. You are using a laptop, but you can still swap them around
with UltraMon. I have no idea why Vista does this. It never happens in XP.
If it happens with laptops, it is much more of a serious problem.

Weird thing is, it's not a new laptop, or external. I've been using
them in combination for almost a year with no problem. Wish I knew
what could have triggered this. :(

It seems to happen randomly in my experience, normally after graphics card
driver update, or a OS reinstall. Never ever happened in XP though.
