Molex Extension Cables -- OK to use for Hard Drives and other devices?

Hello,

With recent additions made to my PC, I'm having some trouble routing all
the molex power connectors in a satisfactory manner. One of the computer
stores I shop at carries 12 inch molex extension cables which I believe
are primarily used for fans. Would it be alright to use these to power
optical/hard drives? They also happen to be UV reactive -- will that
make any difference? I guess what I'm concerned about are things like
interference, power delivery, etc.

Thanks very much,
alex

Yes that'll do fine though it's not ideal to power a LOT of
them this way. I'm assuming it's the similar heavier gauge
wiring as on the power supply, not a thin little wire like
some fan adapters use.

If you have a UV light it will?

No, unless there's some other difference, though a "UV"
cable might be quite a bit more expensive than a plain old
generic.

I guess what I'm concerned about are things like
interference, power delivery, etc.

One of the issues I've come across is that a few seem to
have undersized, poorly fitting pins in them, that don't
make so good a contact and have the potential to be pushed
backwards, partway out of the connector if you're not
careful when plugging them in. A careful inspection should
rule this out.

I concur, please make sure you inspect the 2 hooks on the molex pins
carefully. They can be easily broken even with the proper molex removal
tool.
