I RMA'ed a BFG GeForce 6800GT OC. It was shipped UPS and they left it at my
front door. I live in Alaska, and we use the garage entrance to shed snow
gear, boots, etc. So, I didn't notice the delivered box. When I called BFG,
they said it had been delivered, so I checked, and there it was- after
spending 3 days on the front porch in -10F to +10F temps. When I opened the
packing, the card immediately had a thin film of moisture on it. I used some
canned air on it and am leaving it sit out. Is there a minimum amount of
time I should leave it sit, or is the card OK to install once it reaches
room temp and there are no visible signs of moisture?

TIA,
Fitz

Bloody UPS, they are supposed to have someone sign for it and not
leave it at the door for anyone to come buy and steal. They did that
to someone I know too, left a box of ram he ordered at the door.

It should be ok after leaving at room temp for a day or so.

To Whoever,

I've placed stuff like dusty, gummy, spray cleaned, desk and window fan motor
windings, and other small electronics, in a turned off, slightly warmed oven,
repeating as necessary, with no problem.....

1. Should you give this a try, be sure to place it on something oven safe and static
free....door open.

2. Should you decide to install it, try to get warm air from an outside source, to
blow on the installed board for a while.

3. Improvise....

Condensation, being pure water, is almost always harmless after it
evaporates. But the next time you get a package like this, don't open
it for several hours until it reaches room temperature, and if the
product feels cold, leave it in its protective wrapper for another few
hours. Canned air should also be avoided in cold rooms since it cools
when sprayed and can cause condensation.

give it a day in dry conditions, a hair dryer on low and kept at a good
distance will help.

Yeah, get a hair dryer and all that static potential our for a graphics
card with its memory chips...

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Store it in open air for a day right near the computer in which it
will be installed, and it should be dry and at the same temp by then.
