modify slide master?

hi,

i'd like to add my own text box to all slides, so that i can type in text
underneath every picture in my slide show. (i know i could use captions,
but it seems a custom text box works better.)

if i add the text box to the slide master, it is not editable in each slide.
this must be simple--what am i missing?

Unfortunately, you aren't missing anything (at least not in this case). You
can't add new placeholders in PowerPoint. The best workaround I know of is
to set up a slide the way you want it and copy/paste it when you need it.

If you feel that this is something PowerPoint should do, (to quote John
