One of my Win XP PCs is getting an image burned into the monitor. I
thought that this did not happen with modern CRT monitors. It's a
wallpaper image that I've had up for a few months now, and when that
screen goes away, you can see part of that image, like a ghost of it,
still on the screen. I have the same image on other PCs and I don't
think this is happening on those.

Early color tubes didn't burn in because the shadow mask kept the drive
down. Yes color displays will burn a picture as you are finding. Just look
in any office where the work screen doesn't change much. My 53 inch is
burning the local news logo on it because they all put that little bright
logo in the same spot all the time.......

IMHO whenever you see 'That isn't a problem anymore with newer ..." what is
meant is: this will be trash sooner than anything will go wrong. They
assume a year max lifetime on everything. The 'technology' doesn't change
that much that rapidly.

That all makes sense. I just read somewhere that screen savers where
basically invented for the purpose of avoiding screen burn-in, but that
it really isn't a problem anymore so screen savers are not so
important, but now I see such is not the case. Maybe I'll change the
delay time before screen savers kick in.
