modems

There used to be a setting "Speaker on until connected" in
earlier versions of windows. (I am guessing it was a
windows setting) I am now using XP Pro and all I can find
is the slider for off/on. My bookkeeper feels better if
she hears the modem dial, but the 2 or 3 minutes is
driving me nuts. Is there somewhere I haven't looked?

Control Panel|PHONE & MODEMS|MODEMS tab|PROPERTIES|ADVANCED tab

In the Extra Settings box, type...

M1

Click on OK to exit.

If that doesn't suit, try M3 instead.
 
Ah, the old modem set string didn't think of that!

Thanks If that doesn't work I'll dig out the modem lit.
and get the code.
