Modems

Here's the sceanrio we have in our company. I have one analog telephone line
that I split between a modem for our router and a windows 200 pc. The pc
uses it modem to dial out to connect to vendors site to send files to them.
My issue is that when anyone tries to call that number the modem attached to
the router picks up as well as we hearoise coming form the pc. I want to
make sure no issues are happening like the phone line isn't hanging up
properly. What I've been doing is disabling the modem on the w2k machine
manually. Is there a way to create a script that would disable and enable
the modem on call or is there a wway to prevent the modem from receiving
calls and just permit dialing out only.

Hi,

You can refer to following steps:

1. Log on as an administrator, and the click Start >> Programs >>
Accessories >>
Communications >> Fax >> Fax Service Management.

2. Select Devices in the left pane, and then double click the modem in the
right
pane.

3. On the General tab, uncheck the "Enable receive" option or you may
retain the
option but increase the value for the setting "Ring before answer" so that
you can
pick up the phone before the system accepts an incoming call.

4. Click Ok to exit and you may need to reboot to let the change to take
effect.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
