Why do I keep losing my connection to the internet? I
have Windows XP home edition. THANK YOU. I've made two
calls to microsoft techs at $35.00x2, They didn't help
me. I can't afford that.

How often does the connection drop ?

It's probably dropping because,

1. The internet provider is disconnecting you after a fixed period, say
every two hours, or because your connection has not had any activity for a
certain time, probably 15 mins or so.

2. You have set the modem to disconnect after a certain period of
inactivity.

Go into help and support, and enter "specify disconnect times" without the
quotes.

This will give you instructions on how to check.

3. You may have a faulty cable.

4. If you are using an extension cable for your connection and its going
near anything electrical which generates an electomagnetic field this can
cause it to drop

5. Do you have a party line or any other telephone extensions on the same
line, which someone may pick up.

6. Are you a long way from your exchange, which means the signal is weak

7. Do you have error correction enabled. Without error correction the modem
will keep negotiating down the speed and eventually hangup the connection if
there is too much noise on the line.

8. Perhaps its a modem driver issue. What kind of modem is it, pcmcia, pci,
serial port, usb ?
Whats the make and model ?

What did microsoft suggest, you must have got something for your $70
