I don't know if it's the right place to ask but do me a favour. Help me.

I've an external modem. So when I don't use net, I turn it off.
But the dynamic hardware detection (or whatever it is)of WinXP removes the modem
from the hardware list. So when I try to use net next time, it says there's no modem.
After refreshing the DeviceManager the modem is detected.

Therefore, everytime before using net i've to refresh the devicemanager and that's so
annoing. How can i make the modem not to be removed after turing it off?

Hi,

Have a look in the Eventlogs of your computer for any
clues to what is happening:

- Click on Start button and then Run
- Type 'eventvwr' (without quotes) and hit Enter
- Look in the System log for any yellow exclamation marks
or Red crosses.
- Post any findings back here

Regards,

Tim

.

I assume that it's not a USB modem, and is connected to
a serial port. If that's the case, the only thing you can
do is leave the thing turned on, or turn it off only
after the computer is powered down, and back on before the
computer is powered up.

Well that Sucks
Really

You are right, it's connected to serial port

Click on Start button and then Ru

- Post any findings back her

I've done that before and it says that the device was removed etc etc.
