I have a compaq presario 1900xl161 with an internal
modem. I'm trying to install a external modem but can't
get it to work. I've contacted both Zoom and Compaq and
they both said they can't help. When I guerry the modem
it shows it working. I have gone into the device manager
and disable the internal modem. but when i try get on the
internet I get modem not connected or not installed
right. but the very first time I tried using the modem it
did work? Zoom says it has to be windowsXp because the
querry shows the modem working? Any suggestions?

Another question: is the modem supported under XP? If so, did you
get the XP drivers? If so, did you INSTALL said drivers? If so, did
you install them and the hardware correctly?

XP is picky about what hardware it will accept. Many times the
drivers have to be installed before the hardware.

Why are you trying to use an external modem if your system has a
built-in modem?
