Since upgrading to XP from ME, I have noticed a slowdown
of my analog modem speeds from 52 to 40K...anyone
experience the same problem...

Follow this like and install the microsoft patch.
You may need to have a friend download the patch and burn
a cd for you since the worm usually only affects your
computer when you are logged on.

The new internet worm which exploits a hole in ALL
Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 operating systems can be a nasty
bugger. shutting down computers or overloading an
internet connection. First to block new infections:
Windows XP users run this patch:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/8/b/98bcfad8-
afbc-458f-aaee-b7a52a983f01/WindowsXP-KB823980-x86-
ENU.exe Windows 2000 users run this patch:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/1/f/01fdd40f-
efc5-433d-8ad2-b4b9d42049d5/Windows2000-KB823980-x86-
ENU.exe
Then run the removal tool to get rid of any existing
infections:

This worm is extremely promiscuous and will infect a
computer in a matter of seconds. The Microsoft patch
will help protect the computer from many variations of
the worm, but do not expect it to totally protect your
computers. The removal tool puts a flag in the Windows
registry which tells the worm that it has already
infected a computer, preventing another infection by the
original worm. For the first time I can recall, Microsoft
has admitted the problem lies in their software and not
with the customer. You'll have no problem finding more
information at all the major news outlets. Brad Helm

Yea, I did. Went from 48-51K to 44-45.5K. I talked to
some dealers. They said they had the same thing happen.
I tried 3 different modems, same speed. Put them back in
my Win98 2e 200Mh, back to 48-51. ?????
