Modem/Router Conflict

Greetings!

My ISP is telling me (after numerous calls to tech support) that my modem
and wireless rounter have a conflict which is causing me to regularly lose
my internet connection which forces me to reset the modem each time in order
to regain web access. It seems to mostly happen when I'm downloading or
otherwise leave the computer idle for a while. The router is a D-Link 614+.
The modem is a Westell Wireless (2100) ethernet. My OS is XP Pro. I've
downloaded the lastest D-Link patch which is supposed to address connection
issues between the rounter and modem. However, the patch hasn't corrected
the problem. If anyone has ideas about this happens or how to fix it, I sure
would appreciate hearing them. Thanks.

Hi Joe;

Your Westell modem is a ADSL modem/router combination. I would imagine that
there is a conflict between the Westell and the Dlink for DHCP duties. The
Westell is recommended to use with a hub not a router. I would first plug a
computer directly into the Westell. The computer has to be configured to
obtain an IP address automatically from a DHCP server (the Westell). If
that works put the Dlink back in and turn off DHCP in the Dlink and see if
that works.
