I am trying to upgrade from windows 98 to windowsxp. When I installed
the windows xp it removed my modem. I had to uninstall xp in order to
go on-line and find help. I have a 56K voice-link modem with dial-up
connection.

You simply needed to reinstall the modem drivers most likely.

It's obviously not a plug-and-play modem then. Do you have a CD with the
modem drivers on it? If so, re-install XP and then install the modem from
the CD.

"56K voice-link modem" says nothing about the brand and model. Go to
the manufacturer's web site and download the Windows XP driver for it.
If it is an onboard modem (on the motherboard), you will need to
download the chipset drivers from the motherboard maker's web site.
Since you never mentioned brand and model for the model and motherboard,
no one can give you a link of where to find the appropriate drivers, but
then you could go to the web sites yourself to find and download the
drivers.
