Hi All,
I recently went to windows update and found a new driver available for my
"Lucent Win Modem" (current driver, version: 8.28.0.0, new driver,
version:
8.31.0.0)
I installed the new driver, and now the sound, which used to come from the
little speaker on the modem card, now comes from my PC speakers, (which I
don't like).
I have since rolled back the driver, and now its back to normal. Does
anyone
know how I can use the new driver, and not have the sound come from the PC
speakers?
My system: HP Pavilion, Windows XP Service Pack 2, AMD Athlon XP 1800
1.53
GHz, 736 MB of RAM, Dial-Up Internal "Lucent Win Modem"
Thanks

Hi Tom,

Check the modem properties after installing the new driver, the option to
disable the sound is probably there. However, if the modem works fine with
the existing driver, you do not need to upgrade it at all. This is a
misconception often seen as there is no need to update a driver or firmware
for a hardware device that is working fine as is.
