HI,
I have been trying to solve my modem problems since the
last week in Jan. I have tried getting help from gateway
but they just rush me through each session and tell me if
I want help I should call a fee based help line at
gateway. Im baffled as to what happened and Im exhausted
and frustrated. After browsing about 3 pages on the
internet, my computer starts to lag, it takes about 3 to
5 minutes for a page to load and when (&if) it finally
does load, I am getting a message "Page cannot be
displayed" I must click on detect network settings
everytime. After so many times of having to do this,
pages stop loading completely. I have tried every
troubleshooter I know how to work with. All of my icons
in network and connections/internet connections say
disconnected, firewalled after them. When I right click
on one of the icons to change the settings, nothing
happens. No box comes up allowing me to change,
absolutely nothing happens. Also, I tried to ping, it
reports that I am not connected to the internet,
although, I do get a connection to the Inet. If I go
into detail on evertyting I tried, we will be here
forever, so if anyone thinks this sounds like a familiar
problem, could you reply?
Thanks,
Bobbi

Have you run scans for spyware? It sounds like something is using up your
bandwidth.

No I havent tried that, I do have Norton Internet
Security 2003, would that take care of it? If not would
you be kind enough to advise me of which scan I would
need to perform to try that?
Thanks alot,
Bobbi

Download Spybot Search & Destroy and/or AdAware. Both are free; just do a
search on Google and you'll find them. Run those and see what comes up.
While you're at it, it's not a bad idea to make sure your virus definitions
are updated, and run a complete scan.
