I am trying to install a modem into my computer and to the
best of my knowledge (which is very limited i asure you) I
did everything right.
All the drivers for the product are good and working but
an error comes up ans says "product not supported by
windows 2000".

Yes the modem in 4 years old, pinched from the old home
PC, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to make
the modem work??

If the modem is one of the "winmodem" variety and the drivers you have
are NOT Windows 2000 drivers, you are NOT going to get it working. If
you can determine what the hardware really is and post the info you will
probably be pointed to the correct drivers or directed to aquire a
Windows 2000 compatible piece of gear.

Probably a winmodem - one whose functions are performed by Windows, instead
if by the modem itself. These modems need software that is specific for the
version of Windows that you are using, and specific for the chipset used on
the modem. Look on the manufacturer's website for for the correct software.
However, if the modem was originally designed for Win3.x/9x, it's unlikely
they bothered to write the software to make it work with W2K.

Best bet: Trash it, and get a real modem, preferably an external one. Current
plain vanilla ones are all "Hayes compatible." These can be used with any
computer running on any operating system. W2k has no trouble with them. They
do cost more than winmodems, but IMO winmodems aren't worth taking even if
they're free.
