I upgraded from Windows 98 to windows 200o professional
and now the computer does not recognize my Conexant soft
56k modem. I have the driver, but it say I need something
from windows update...where can I get it, for I looked and
didn't see anything.

Where did you look?

Rule # 1 about getting updates: Always go to the manufacturer's website
first. In this case Conexant. There is also a website that offers all kinds
of drivers. Can't recall its URL, try googling on "driver depository," or on
"windows 2000 modem drivers." Good hunting!

BTW, it looks like you have a "winmodem." If it's an older model, or one that
never sold in large quantity, the odds that you will not find a Win2000
driver for it. If you have to but a new modem, make sure you get a real
modem, not a winmodem. Real modems will work with any OS, on any machine.
They're pretty well plug'n'play these days.

Good luck.

Since the modem is either not plug and play, you need to
add the device manually, go to control panel/add new
hardware wiz/ when it asks to automatically search say no
and instead select from a list, go to the list and find
your manufactor/ then find your make of device then select
have disc, it should find the drivers on your disc.
