modem icon in tray quit showing up

Not sure what happened, but sometimes my modem icon (two
little screens) doesn't show up when I'm connected
online. That's actually no big deal however, there's no
way to hang up the connection. If I go into Control Panel
and right click on my modem connection, it actually shows
that I'm disconnected BUT I'M NOT! So the only way to
hang up the connection is to shut down the machine!
Anyone have any ideas?

"rasdial connection-name-goes here /disconnect" <---
from the command line
or Start/Settings/Network and Dial-Up Connections - right click on the
connection name and select "disconnect"

Something is screwed up in your RAS config. Use the other option I posted
(rasdial).
