Modem Grayed out

I am running a P laptop ze5385us that was on XP home OS.
I upgraded it to XP PRO and linked it to broadband. Now
the dialup configuration is not working. Only broadband.
I am talking to a HP tech but so far they still want to
focus on the driver for the modem which is working ok. I
get a malloc rasenumdrivers error when I bring up an
application that wants to use the modem. The Microsoft
FAX set up does work with the modem and so does the MSN
diag.

Most likely, you had XP SP1 installed in XP Home and then
upgraded to XP Pro that did not include XP SP1:

If the broadband connection is working, use it to download and
install XP SP1 again and see if that resolves the issue for the Dial-Up.

Otherwise follow the instructions in 329441 and then install XP SP1 again.

P.S. Please have your Anti Virus program temporarily disabled before
installing XP SP1.
