Modem gets diconnected

S

Sanjay Bhavsar

I am using windows XP professional edition on my home PC.

I am using HSP56 micro modem to connect to internet. I
have installed modem drivers from my motherboard
manufaturer CD as my modem is onboard.

Now whenever I get connected to internet via modem I can
run internet for hardly 5-6 minutes after that my Windows
XP gets hanged and I get diconnected from internet.

Please suggest some remedy to overcome this proble,

Thanking u

This is a "Windows" modem, and they don't normally work with XP. Update to a Creative or some modem that states on the box that it is XP-compatible. MS used to distribute a programme you could run before you upgraded to XP to tell you whether everything would work with XP: I ran it first and it said categorically that the HSP56 modem would not work.

I have seen this several times. A cheap 56K modem will try to connect at too
high a speed and then drop connection. This is due to poor phone lines and
cheap modem. I just fixed in friends computer by installing old high quality
33.6K modem.

I have also seen problem where the video card causes radio frequency
interference to modem. This was fixed by moving modem to different PCI slot
inside computer, far away from video card.
