Modem Frustration

I installed Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade this past
weekend on a PIII machine previously running Windows ME.
So far so good and I am plased at how XP is operating and
how much faster my machine now runs. But I do have one
question........

I have a DSL line, but about every 5 minutes or so the
dial-up modem connection dialog box pops up and prompts
me to try to connect. This is in spite of the fact that
I have no internal or external dial-up modem, no
information is entered for any dial-up connections, and I
have not even used a dial-up modem for over 2 years.

I have tried all the obvious things such as going to the
device manager (no modem is shown), etc. Does anybody
know how to make this annoying little trick stop?

Thanks for your help.

I *think* you may be able to stop the box from displaying via control
panel \ network settings
Right-click your ISP \ properties \ options \ disable "display
progress while connecting".

It sounds as though this came with the upgrade. Perhaps look at the
task manager or windows update settings... ?
