I have the exact problem as described by Peter Coughlin dated
September, 2003. I have not found any helpful responses to his post
and so hesitatingly re-open the subject.
I have a Dell Inspiron 600m running XP pro. When the computer should
go into standby I get a message that the Broadcom modem driver is
keeping the machine from going into standby. I uninstalled the driver
and then got a message that Port 1 is keeping the computer from going
into standby. Rather than continue unistalling and disabling I
contacted dell support - 3 time now - and was told to run system and
modem diagnostics. I ran the diagnostics and then, per Dell support
advice, uninstalled the Broadcom Driver in safe mode, voila, the
problem is not fixed.
Before I contact Dell in frustration I thought I would tap the
collective wisdom of this group. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
CW
