i recently bought a new sony vaio desk top and installed
a fully XP compatible cable modem (motorola SB4200) on
the machine. the connection is up and running but
whenever i go on-line the computer constantly re-starts
itself. i get an error message diagnosing the device
driver, why is it not working? i have tested for all
suspected virus' etc and my computer is clean,

I do not know the cable modem, but if it is a USB model, check with the
manufacturer to see if there is a known problem and/or find any driver
updates.

Also, make sure all motherboard drivers are updated and check to see if
Service Pack 1 is installed. Also, if the modem is using USB 2 signals,
make sure you have the latest drivers for your desktop's USB ports.

Hello , i'm also having problems with that modem , i have tried a re-install
of the modem / XP repair / XP re-install and it still does it but it is
intermittent.
I downloaded modem driver from the net but it seemed to be the same as i had
on the CD , taking off the XP auto re-start brings up one of three error
messages when the crash occurs, two mention USB but how to track down ?
