It doesn't matter how 'great' your modem is advertised as
when compressed files such as mp3's are transmitted over
phonelines they can not be compressed any further which
will give you slow throughput for any kind of compressed
files "mpeg, mp3, zip files, and the list goes on". This
is why it will seem like these go slow still. What makes
modems fast is how well they can compress data...
unfortunately compressed files such as those above will
not be compressed any further by the modem.
No matter what is advertised maximum possible speed you
can get out of a regular phone line is about 52Kbps...
that's as fast as the actual lines and phone switching
network can support.
