modem disconnects

When I click "annoyances" bookmark, I get the message: "Firefox cannot find
"www.annoyances.org" Try again." Since the computer has been disconnected, I
redial and get connected, then click "try again" and am connected to
"annoyances." Modem query says "termination reason= key abort."
Also when I try to send e-mail, the computer disconnects after a second or
two. Modem query says "termination reason=DTR drop" I receive e-mail. I've
run avast and spyware scans. Avast says my Panda Tru-prevent file is infected
with a virus: 32:CTX, but can't do anything. I've
been informed that is is not a harmful virus.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how I can correct it?
Thank you in advance for any

Have you tried updating the modem drivers from the manufacturers website?
That, along with video and sound might be the first place to start.

If that does not help check the quality of your phone line, maybe replace
the line between the computer and the wall jack. You might also consider
moving the computer to another jack to see if it happens there as well.

Here in OZ call waiting would have to be the biggest cause of modem
drop outs, could this apply to you.
No point me giving you the codes to check/turn off and turn on call
waiting as your local system may uses diferent codes.
However this site may help, watch for line wrap
