When I upgraded to XP, my modem speed icon disappeared in
the tray on the lower right side. When I dial up I can
not tell how good the speed is. How do I correct this?

In other words, when using explorer, I can no see the
modem speed.

Open My Network Places, View Network Connection, and right-click on your
dial-up connection. Choose PROPERTIES. Put a checkmark in the "show icon
on taskbar" box at the bottom.

Micheal T:
Try this...Control Panel>Network Connections. Right-click your dial-up
connection, then click Properties. Check the "Show icon in notification
area....." box and click OK.

the modem speed you see displayed is meaningless. That's
just a sample that is taken at the time of connection.

Just about any decent ISP today uses 56K.
