My internet connection at home is via cable modem. In
trying to setup a modem connection for dial-up to the
office, system attempts to dial but there is no dial tone.

What I've checked:
..phone cord functioning properly
..phone cord connected to appropriate "line in"
..modem configured properly
..modem diagnostics good

Any suggestions?

Check for newer driver for modem, from manufacturer (easier advice to give
than to accomplish!)

There is probably an AT command to tell it to ignore lack of dial tone, and
there are places to enter AT commands to be used in addition to the standard
ones built-in--but I'm not sure that'd help!

You could throw a couple of commas ahead of the phone number, on the theory
that there's some lag when picking up the line before the dial tone appears.

Thanks Bill. I've tried everything (and I mean
everything!!) except downloading/reinstalling the driver.

I appreciate the feedback. Will let you know the outcome.

Bill - as promised, here's the followup.

I took the Reinstall CD that came with the software and
was able to step through some solutions there. It worked
much faster than downloading a driver.

Thanks again for your help!

Terrific--glad you got it fixed.
