Modem Causes XP To Lock up

I am currently using cable internet and just installed a US Robotic
modem so that I can fax. After I installed the modem and updated it
drivers Windows XP Pro Sp2 began locking up requiring reboot. It woul
lock up when entering a new office program or when entering a web sit
that had a flash presentation. There was nothing listed in event viewe
that would indicate the cause of the freeze up and there was no trouble
devices listed in device manager, nor was there any conflictin
resources. When the modem was removed the symptoms ceased to exist
Sound like a bad modem? I am still waiting for a response from U
Robotics.

Sound like a bad modem? I am still waiting for a response from US

It could be a bad modem, but I've also heard that there are issues with
certain cable company's software products when a modem is also enabled.

Or that modem could simply be incompatible with your system.

The good news is that modems are cheap. You might be best off just buying
another modem (get it from a store that will allow a return if it doesn't
work with your computer) and see if that works any better.
