Hi to all,

Everytime my GPO is applied (timely) the mobsync utility is sheduled to
run at startup in HKLM\...\runonce\.

Which policy affects this behaviour? And how to turn it off?

Thanks in advance,
rusga

Mobsync.exe is part of the offline folders functionality of windows. It
takes care of the synchronisation of offline modified files when takes
the computer/notebook back into the network.

You can turn offline folders off in:
[Compconf | Userconf ]\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files\

cheers,

Florian

Danke Florian,

I'm terribly sorry but the entry I wanted to ask about was:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\Register OCX =
regsvr32.exe /s msdxm.ocx

.... not mobsync.exe. Dumb me.

So the question remains.

Regards,
rusga

If you fire up Start->Help and Support and ... choose at the right side
the option "Tools to show computer information", then (at the left side)
"advanced system information", then "applied group policies" (sorry, I
still only got a german windows, so the items may be named a bit
different)- is your regkey listed?

cheers,

Florian

Sehr Florian, (Is this correct? I'm still trying to learn german ;-),
forgive me)

Er... I also forgot to mention that this is a Win2000 server. There's no
such start menu items here. Sorry.

I have a workaround on this. I wrote a script that deletes this entry on
every user logoff.

But I want this to stop. It writes this entry everytime my GPO template is
applied and I've seen nothing related to this in the template (using the
template creation GUI in mmc).

I think this was embedded in some MS patch I've applied. But the weirdest
part is that this ocx is already installed?!? Note that I don't use IE,
all of its features are disabled on all zones (even scripting and
cookies), I don't let push (aka "install on demand") on this system and
also don't let "download missing COM components" (more push) policy to be
performed, since out-of-the-box's first run.

Even if I let it execute once at next boot, it keeps on comming! But
*only* when the template is applied.

So, where can I see this "instruction" and safely delete it?

Regards,
rusga

PS: Funny is, that MS thinks that a server must have all multimedia
goodies embedded on its Browser.

My english isn't well, too. So I don't mind ;-) "Sehr Florian" means
"very Florian". Maybe you wanted to add "geehrter" or "geschätzter" :-)

Uh, okay, I thought this happened on a client machine.

The funny thing is, that the "runonce"-items get deleted once they were
processed. So they should be deleted anyway.

Which template creation GUI do you use? Did you try GPMC yet? Or am I
getting this wrong now?

:-( Weird - and I don't have any further solutions in my mind.

Whatever Florian, :-)

So I wasn't that much mistaken... since you are "very" Florian, or are you
just in part? eheheheh

Inline pls.

I'm using the normal W2K MMC snapin. GPMC is a no-good for me as stated in:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...9272-DD3CBFC81887&displaylang=en#requirements

"...Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows XP
GPMC runs on Windows XP Professional SP1 and Windows Server 2003 computers
and can manage Group Policy in either Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003
domains.
For Windows XP Professional users, you must have the following installed
prior to installing the GPMC:
Windows XP Service Pack 1
..NET Framework..."
:-( Weird - and I don't have any further solutions in my mind.

Well, I'll try some hack within the template itself. I'll keep you posted.
If I still have the system up & running that is.

Your DC is Windows 2000 Server, right? So if you have a Windows XP
workstation, you could use GPMC from there. But that wouldn't solve your
problem anyway, I think.

Thanks, that would be nice.
I bet it's just some sort of peanut misconfiguration you simply don't
think of ...

cheers,

Florian
