MoBo, memory or something else? HELP!!!!!

I recently downloaded a "Super Utility" tool from the Foxconn website which supposedly enabled me to safely update the BIOS on my K8S760MG-6LRS motherboard. However, having gone through all the safety precautions such as backing up original BIOS to floppy & backing the whole system onto DVD, when I attempted to reboot after the update ALL I got was a recurring long BEEP about every 3 seconds & no display on my monitor! I took the DIMMs out to get them tested on another machine & they both seemed to work fine, so I then decided to replace the motherboard. Having now bought a Biostar K8NHA Grand, installed it & made sure everything was wired in the right positions, I tried booting with that & got exactly the same beep!! Is this possibly an incompatibility problem with the memory (2x256MB, elixir branded) or could there be some other problem? PLEASE help!!!!!

Thanks for that link, had already been to that & several other sites regarding beep codes though... all say its bad memory!!! Seems extremely odd that the memory sticks will work in another machine. Have tried every combination with the memory - putting just one stick in each slot then changing them around etc. Will let you know when I finally get it resolved!!!

In my opinion and experience regarding memory! I.E. crucial/corsair/generic Etc: memory will function on one PC but will not on another [not compatible] if you have a variety of RAM it is trial and error, also if your MOBO supports DDR2700/3200/ Etc: it will only run at the given rate I.E. if the MOBO supports up to 2700 and you install 3200 it will run at 2700. If all the scan programs suggest it is RAM error then they all cant be wrong so try different makes of RAM.

Make sure the RAM slots are clean with good contact vacuum the slots with a cleaner.;)

Not really ... I am continually reminding people to check the MB recommendations for "supported" memory.

You'd be surprised at how many people think they can "bung-in" any old RAM

Finally managed to find some memory that was in the "compatible" list for my MoBo... fingers crossed that it'll work!! Won't have it til Tuesday, though:(
