I just purchased a P4G8X motherboard and I couldn't get it to work. I'm a
newbie so I did a few things wrong. At first I didn't realize that I need
those brass screws to lift up the board from the case DOH :)

Once I had it built I thought I would hook everything up and let it rip. It
would power for a second and quit. hmmm Then I unplugged it all and took
off the cpu cooling fan/heat sink. I put the cpu handle at 90 degrees and
this time I pushed down very slightly on the chip and it went down. Damn I
thought zero insertion meant that but I guess it means very little
insertion. So that was cool. I left everything unplugged and started the
machine. woo hoo. It started. Turned it off. Added the graphics card and
started it. It started but no POST (power on self test) screen. hmmm. I
added my ram and started it again. WOOO HOOO. POST screen and we're in
business.

One thing I did many times was ground myself to the box and I wore a static
strip. Paranoid, I know ;)

Hope this helps.

The instructions did not mention these things. That's why I wrote them down
for others. :)

.... and every motherboard should come with a disposable anti-static
strap. My modified P2Bs do, along with a warranty disclaimer if you
choose not to use it.

As long as you ground yourself on the case before starting then there isnt
much of a problem with that
