Hi,

Is there any advantage to pairing a Mobo with a Gfx card of the same
brand and same chipset brand?

e.g. an Asus nForce mobo with an Asus GeForce gfx card

Or is this just a silly thought?

Thanks and Regards,
Edwin

No

Though rarely there were rumors about some ATI cards not
working so well on nForce (2?) chipset boards but that's
more of a fluke than anything. Same brand has no advantages
in general.

There might be an advantage costwise if they were selling a
board + video card bundle together but otherwise no.

Thanks Kony,

In that case, is there any way to find out if a particular graphics
card may potentially conflict with a particular motherboard?

Actually, my question extends to CPU and RAM as well... any way to find
out if a particular CPU or RAM may potentially conflict with a
particular motherboard (though i understand that this is highly
unlikely).

1) Try it.

2) Check some web forums that're fairly motherboard
oriented, perhaps http://forums.amdmb.com

There is no such thing, either the board supports them or it
doesn't, not possible for a conflict. However, there are
some rare cases where memory might be mis-spec'd or all
timings not revealed, or the board bios is buggy and runs
some odd timings that aren't as stable at the highest bus
speeds. Since memory can change from time to time- even
same manufacturer part #, again you'd have to try it or rely
on reports from others (who had purchased it recently).

Generally speaking, it's best to just buy from someplace
with a good return policy so if/when these rare events occur
(and they will, every now and then) you have a reasonable
expectation they'll take the parts back even if there's a
restocking fee.

Good question, but it is just a silly thought. Base your decision on the
respective specifications.

Thanks Kony and Dave for your replies...

FYI, i have just got an Asus A8N-E nf4 Ultra motherboard and an Asus
AX300SE graphics card.

Based on reviews and forums, the A8N-E seems reliable and has what i
need without being too costly.

Same gots for the AX300SE. It's also an economical choice as i don't
really need a high-end one.
