I appreciate all the help the forum provided in helping me to
determine that my system failure to POST was a result of hardware
issues, not XP issues. After leeting the system "rest" for 24 hours,
I found that it did indeed boot and I thought my troubles were
over... not so fast.

Upon return home, I found the BSD and upon the reboot attempt -
SOMETHING in the system let out a long tone (not through the computer
but rather emanating from the case) and fails to POST.

I know that tone means SOMETHING to someone smarter than me... anyone
know what ?

TIA,
G

Tones from within the case is not something one longs to hear.
Some motherboards are configured to let out a tone when there is a critical
hardware error. Your computer's manufacturer should have documentation if
this is the case.

If your system reboots after a prolonged "rest" period that sounds like
something is overheating. Possibly a fan on the processor or videocard has
given out. Once the temperature rises too high the computer gives out.

This can also be a RAM error or a number of other things.

You may be better served by a hardware oriented group than an WinXP group tho.

Alex - you have confirmed my suspicion. I plan on shipping the unit
in for service under the warranty. Thanks.
