Hi all

I have made a win 95 pc for my 5 1/4 inch floppy adventure games but im
haveing trouble with the dram memory. I have a GA-586ATV mobo with 4 slots
for memory (bank 0 - 2 slots, and bank 1 - 2 slots) if I put in bank 0 two
32 mb stick to make a total of 64 mb its ok.

but if I place only one stick of memory in bank 1 it dosnt show up as being
there, only if I put another stick of memory at any size in bank 1 will it
see it as there so what im saying is to add more memory I have to use both
slots in bank 1 for it to show up.

Heres why I dont like this for now.

I have a bag of memory that I dont know what size in mb they are and I was
trying to test them one by one by using bank 0 with 2x 32mb and going by the
rule 1 mb is 1024 kb so anything after 65536kb at bootup will tell me what
the stick of ram is. But it makes it orkward with two sticks in bank 1.

Is there a way to make it show with only one stick in bank 1?

Thanks heaps
GK

Hi GK.
Here`s the manual
http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:...doc+GA-586ATV+memory&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=uk

Pump the board model into www.crucial.com to see
what the sizes, and config is.

Thanks meerkat but I have read the manual before my post but dosnt say how
to use bank 1 with one stick of memory.

Thanks

Sounds like that board only takes memory in pairs.
Can`t you test them in another machine which will
take single modules ?.

I have no more mobos with dram in, I have a Future Power VA693A mobo that I
need a manual for witch im having a hard time to locate as I'll make it as a
win 95 pc aswell.

I have a bag of memory that I dont know what size in mb they are ...

Tell us the part numbers on the individual RAM chips (not the paper
stickers) and we will be able to determine the size and speed of each
SIMM by referring to the datasheets for the chips.

Hi Franc and Meerkat I found a way to get the values for each of them, I had
to install 2x32mb and 1x8mb and if there were any 8mb sticks in bootup it
came to 81920kb but it only worked for sticks that were 8mb as the
configuration of the mobo only can have 2x 32mb, 2x 16mb, 2x 8mb and 2x 4mb
in one bank like in the pdf from meerkat. Well so I went through the 8mb
sticks and then the same for 4mb sticks and so on witch took awhile and I
was lucky to find today 2 sticks of 32mb dram and an old 6 gig bigfoot HDD
from hard rubbish (rubbish collection at front of home here in
Australia)...I call it shopping cause I get all sorts of good stuff that
people throw away.

Thanks all
