MOBO/CPU question

I recently acquired a couple computers and am in the process of putting all
working parts together to complete one that works.

After opening up the cases, I found out the CPU's are AMD Duron's, one 600
MHz and one 800 MHz.

Both the motherboards look the same. My question is, I want to switch the
600 for the 800, if the MOBO does not support it, will it still boot up
correctly or will it cause problems?

The only identifying marks on the MOBO were: "MS-6340 Ver:1 and N1996." I
did a search and I am assuming it is this one:
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=MS-6340M which says it
supports a Duron (Socket A) up to 950MHz. Expert opinions appreciated,
thanks.

You shouldn't have any problems the only difference between the two *should*
be clock speeds, and if the mobo cannot support it, it will simply put it to
the fastest clock speed it can support. If it cannot support the processor
however it simply will not POST, and you should get a beep code.

Thanks Chris,

I switched the chips and it boots up fine, so I guess that means it accepts
the chip and should work ok (?)

N1996." says it
Yep if it boots up and posts the correct speed with no errors you shouldn't
have any problem.
