If this is the wrong group for posting this, I apologize in advance.

I am in the process of putting a parts list together for a new home
audio recording system. I'm currently running a PIII 800 [no
overclock] w/Ultra160 drives/Event Electronics GINA card/Midiman
Winman 4x4/S on a Tyan S1854 [VIA chipset], under Win98SE. As I'm
also looking to add video features in the future, it looks like it is
time to upgrade...

Anyone already have/or are in the process of building a home recording
setup? What are you using for mobo/cpu setup and why? Any other
innovations in this arena I should research further? I've been out of
the loop equipment-wise, for some time...

And... if this is not the right group for this question, please
direct me to the correct group.

TIA

Home recording of video and audio,,,security?

There are many alternatives. I do much VHS / Hi8 transfers to DVD/CDR. I started out on a P3v4x mainboard and a Plll 850 - 4 SCSI
HDs - 512m ram. Had trouble with the VIA chipset, so now I steer clear, maybe unfounded currently, but with all the choices why
bother.

Right now I have 2 video systems

Editing machine:
1 xP4B533 - 2.8 P4- 1 gig ram
4x scsi2 drives (from the Plll) total capacity 160gigs
ATI AIW 7500
1394 firewire

Final production machine:
1x P4B266- 2.0 P4- 1 gig ram
DVD burner + CD burner
2x 80g IDE
ATI 9700pro
1394 firewire

You could do Much better today in so far as HD selection (sata), larger memory capacity, And I guess AMD is now an alternative(never
really considered the K6(2) up to par for video).

Thanks for the reply! I've never had a problem with the VIA on my
system, it's just too slow anymore for what I want to do...

Thanks again for the tech leads, I will do some more research...
