Mobile Celerons on ASUS P4P800!! Can be done!

Or can it

Now Pentium 4 mobiles can be used on 865/875 boards and they surely fly
since the multiplier drops 12X !

However, mobile celeron with 256kb l2 is pretty fast, but it does not run on
865 boards. It does run on 845 board without modding ?

Is it a question of FCPGA vs FCPGA2 socket ?

It can be used on 845 Abit BH7 which also can run 800fsb p4's and 400fsb
celerons etc.

One suggestion is that newer boarsd (865/875) are missing suitable cpuid
strings from bios ? Can anyone help me with this ?

Here is a long thread about this "discovery" and problems related to it

Why would you want to run an underpowered Mobile Celeron on a board with so
much more potential?

Lower power usage & lower temps ?

Almost all P4M chips would be used with a fairly (compared to desktop HSF)
passive cooling solution.

I can think of a few nice HTPC you could build given less heat to dissipate,
and smaller power requirements on a
PSU.

Just for fun and because they are marked for 1.3v. With D1 core you can push
1.8Ghz mobile to 3.6Ghz easily. With 200fsb abd 256 kb l2 cahce you are
merely 5-7 % slower than p4.
