That's what I get everytime on the 'Close program window' when I press the control-alt-del keys whenever I try to transfer data to
my external 20Gig Buslink harddrive. My machine freezes up. Then I have to turn the machine off and restart---can't reboot or
nothing!
The Buslink drive is the 'H' drive on my computer (Compaq Presario 4880, running Windows 98-Not W98se).
I have three other drives (other than the 'C' drive).
A 100 MB Zip drive. (E).
A 250 MB Zip drive (F).
And a internal CD writer drive (G).
And of course a 3 1/2 Floppy "A" drive.
I have checked and re-checked all connections. I have replaced the USB cable (with another USB cable) that feeds the "H" drive. No
change.
Something else I've noticed when I go to Start>programs>Find.
When the Find: All Files window comes up. On the drop down menu in the 'Look in' box. On the line-'Local hard drives', there shows
both a C and H drive. (C:,H:) on the same line.
Then after all the other listed drives, on the bottom line of the drop down menu is the 'H' drive sitting by itself (H:).
That seems a little strange.
Also this 'H' drive has never been defragged since I installed it about two years ago. Both Norton and Iomega defrag seem to hang up
whenever I try to use them. And Buslink has no instructions on this.
Is there a way to do a defrag in Dos on this external drive?
I'm not too famiilar on Dos because I never used it. Win95 was on the machine when I bought it new.
I use to be able to transfer date OK, but recently it's gotten worst to do.
I have about 6 gigs of data on the 20 Gig drive now.
I just tried a 20Kb txt file from desktop to 'H' drive and everything froze up.
Data seems to xfer _from_ 'H' drive to desktop (or anywhere else) usually OK. Also I show no conflicts on the Device manager
screen.
Looking for any help or info.
Thanks

The BusLink 20 GB USB 2.0 On The Go / Lite external drive works
great for me on Windows XP Pro on 2 seperate PCs. One is at my
office and the other one is at home. I move 5 GB from my office to
home once per week. I have never had a problem yet in 3 months
or so.

Thanks,
Lynn

Hey, thanks for the 'heads-up' Lynn.
I forgot to mention that my Buslink drive is a USB 1 connection.
Gosh, I'm glad somebody caught that. It's pretty important!

Well I posted this question on the 24 hour support helpdesk newsgroup and
got some very good advice from a _very_ knowledgeable person who signs
*Mike*.
He suggested that I remove all multimedia devices in Device manager while
I was in Safe Mode. And then reboot. I did that and......
I still have the same problem. Some kind of conflict with the 'C' and 'H'
drives whenever I plug in the 'H' drive to the 4 way USB bridge I have on
my machine.
I thank anyone in this newsgroup who _might_ have been considering an
answer to this problem.
I think my next move might be to contact Buslink and try to pick their
brains a little. <g>
Thanks, everyone,
RMS

Yup, a _very_ knowledgeable person indeed he must be to get that kind of result.
I wish I was that knowledgeable and get that kind of recognition.
